Developed together with the diverse communities of San Francisco, the 2023 Hungry Ghost festival celebrates our ancestors in Chinatown. After a week-long blessing and chanting session, the activities accumulate in a magnificent Ghost King parade, followed by art and music in Portsmouth Square.
From the Chinese Culture Center, the presenters of the Hungry Ghost Festival:
"For the first time ever, the 2023 Hungry Ghost Festival will reinterpret traditional customs for celebrating ancestors through contemporary art. With music, dance, food, and public art, Chinatown invites the City's diverse communities to a lively night of rituals, play, and unexpected encounters."
